| Description: | The position teaches one or more subjects, with a focus on secondary social studies subjects to clients to help them learn the subject matter and/or skills by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Plan a program of study that meets the clients individualized needs, interest, and abilities. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the clients maturity and interest. Assists in the on-going development of the school curriculum and processes toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the State and school district. Employs a wide variety of instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting educational objectives that are outlined in the school curriculum. Assesses the accomplishments of clients on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Implements all policies, procedures, and behavioral tools within the classroom. Participates as an educational team member in relationship towards the clients, staff, and school. Diagnosing the learning disabilities of clients on a regular basis and seeks assistance of educational specialists as required. Manage an educational caseload by supporting the educational plan, setting short-term goals, and summarizing achievements in reports for assigned clients. Assigns lessons and corrects homework. Administers tests to evaluate client progression, records results, and issues reports to inform parents/guardians of educational progress. Keeps attendance records. Coordinates classroom activities, which may include group meetings, field trips, and assemblies. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Attends staff meetings and conferences. Supports the Cornell Abraxas' philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care. Performs other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May supervise 2-3 teachers' aide. Education and/or Experience BA/BS degree in related field in subject matter that is utilized for teaching purposes (social studies). Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply basic math skills concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills Word processing, email, and spreadsheets Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid program/facility State specific Department of Education Teaching Certificate. Valid and current PA secondary certification in science, or valid and current PA Private Certification. If candidate has a BA/BS in coursework that would allow PA Private Certification, the program will assist the candidate in obtaining private certification. Other Skills and Abilities Other Qualifications At least twenty-one years of age Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34 clearances, specific State and child clearances and FBI).
